Porcelain Crowns

Sometimes called a cap, a crown encases the entire tooth surface. When teeth are damaged to the extent that fillings or other types of dental restoration will not be effective, we will recommend a porcelain crown. Crowns are often used to improve the appearance of broken or fractured teeth and are required if the tooth has undergone root canal treatment.

Porcelain crowns are tooth colored, very durable and will last for many years. They are made to match the shape and size of your tooth as well as the color, giving you a natural look.

Patients receiving crown treatment will require two appointments. During the first we will take impressions or molds of your tooth to create the custom fitted crown as well as a temporary crown. Your dentist will prepare your tooth by removing all decay and shaping the surface so the crown will fit properly. At that point your temporary crown will be placed.

About two weeks later you’ll come back for your second appointment. Your dentist will remove the temporary crown, clean the surface and carefully secure the new porcelain crown in place. We will check your bite to ensure that the crown fits properly and feels comfortable.
