Heart disease is the #1 cause of death in the USA. New research presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Session in November 2011 found that people who have their teeth cleaned by a dentist or hygienist had a 24% lower risk of heart attack and 13% lower risk of stroke. Professional cleanings appear to reduce inflammation-causing bacterial growth that can lead to heart disease or stroke.

A recent report shows what many already know: Central Ohio is home to great communities! Powell came in at #5 and Dublin at #9 out of 955 Midwestern communities based on a 20 point criteria to evaluate the most favorable living conditions.

On Numbers used a 20-part formula to find Midwestern communities that enjoy healthy economies, light traffic, moderate costs of living, impressive housing stocks and strong educational systems. Business First published the results in December.

Annual Tree Lighting In Dublin!

Plan To Join the Fun on Thursday, December 1

The City of Dublin is hosting the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 at 62 W. Bridge Street.

This festive evening will kick off with musical performances from Indian Run Elementary and Riverside Elementary students, and will end when Santa Claus and Dublin City Council light the 40-foot Christmas tree with thousands of glistening lights and ornaments.

Following the ceremony, join friends and neighbors inside Indian Run Elementary to meet Santa Claus and his reindeer, enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, and more. Conclude the evening with visiting one of the many signature restaurants in Historic Dublin.

This event is free and open to the public.

Halloween Is Not JUST For Kids!

At Dublin Dental Associates we love Halloween! From our dentists to hygienists and all our staff, we really get into it. Planning starts early to be sure everyone is on board with that year’s theme. It’s a bit crazy looking for a dental office but many of our patients schedule their appointments just so they can see us all decked out. This year we’ll be celebrating on Friday, October 28. Even if you don’t have an appointment, stop by and say hi!

School Supply Drive a Success!

Thanks to all our wonderful patients we were able to help out deserving Chapman Elementary School students and teachers. Many students need supplies that their family cannot afford – simple things like notebooks, pencils and folders. The Dublin Dental Associates school supply drive collected hundreds of needed item.

This morning Dr. Montgomery presented Chapman Principal Scott Zeoli and Guidance Counselor Katie Smiley with the items we collected.

“Yesterday a teacher asked if I had a notebook that we could give a student,” said Ms. Smiley. “I had to say no but asked her to please come back to the office tomorrow because I knew Dublin Dental Associates was coming to us with their generous donation.”

“It’s great to be able to give back to our community and to help our patients connect with students who need their help,” said Dr. Montgomery. “We plan on making this an annual event at DDA.”

Battle of the Toothbrushes

Patients often ask us if an electric or sonic toothbrush is better than a manual toothbrush. Although many people get excellent results from a traditional toothbrush, there are reasons to consider going with the power toothbrush.

People who suffer from arthritis or have limited hand dexterity may find a powered toothbrush makes the job much easier
For those wearing orthodontic appliances brushing may be more effective with an electric or powered toothbrush
Some studies show that regular may reduce the amount of plaque on teeth, and that helps fight gum disease

We will recommend a powered toothbrush for those patients whose daily brushing and flossing habits put them at risk for gum disease or other oral health issues. If you have questions, please ask us during your next regular checkup. The most important thing is to brush and floss twice a day, every day!
